Building stores from modular components manufactured offsite is proving a popular choice for supermarkets, according to steel frame building manufacturer Yorkon. Director David Johnson says there are two areas where retail clients are looking at prefabricated buildings. Firstly, the system can be used to provide interim stores. This means the retailer has a location from which to operate while an existing store is being traditionally refurbished. "Some of the interim stores we've built have been around 1,000 sq m; it lets the client commission construction elsewhere without losing customers," he says.
