The UK construction industry shrunk for the 22nd month running in December, according to the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply.rnThe respected CIPS/Markit construction purchasing managers' index recorded a score of 47.1 for last month - below the 50 mark that indicates no change on the previous month.rnThe decline in construction output contradicted the Q3 2009 construction output figures from the Office for National Statistics, which suggested that the industry officially came out of recession last June.rnThe ONS figures showed a growth in construction output of 2 per cent in the three months to 30 September on the back of a £1 billion increase in repair and maintenance work.
