Contract awards

Most private sectors have been subdued compared with other regions as the downturn bites. After a particularly poor performance in 2009, hotels and leisure contract awards have seen a steady rise, culminating in a 79.3 per cent increase in the value of awards this year to date compared with 2010, largely due to the aggressive expansion plans of budget chains. Retail awards, though higher than in 2010 at ￡52m, remain more muted than in other regions, while social housing awards are showing the strain of spending cuts.
