The government has cut more than half of the tariffs for solar panel schemes of up to 4 kilowatts, creating an unpredictable market for contractors fitting photovoltaic equipment. In a written statement to Parliament, the energy minister Greg Barker also promised to implement minimum efficiency standards for buildings applying for the subsidies - creating a possible boost to the Green Deal. Mr Barker said the tariffs, funded through electricity bills, had been heavily oversubscribed and risked creating a boom and bust in the solar energy market.
