Kljlstra's square manholes first came to the UK in 2009. The pre-cast manholes are manufactured off site, which means it is more cost-effective in multiple ways compared with traditional round manhole systems, from requiring fewer men, materials and plant to taking less time, and therefore money, to install. The judges commended the company's ambitious targets to bring about industry change and its close attention to detail, as well as noting satisfied customers on every job as a hallmark of its operation.
