EDF increases Hinkley Point offer to ￡20m

EDF Energy has increased its proposed community fund payment to residents who will be affected by nuclear development at Hinkley Point from Elm to ￡20m. The energy giant has held meetings with Sedgemoor and West Somerset district councils in recent months to discuss a community fund to be administered by the local authorities. While the councils were believed to be seeking in excess of ￡100m solely for a community fund (CN10 Feb,p7) EDF Energy has now unveiled a package it says will contribute E100m in lasting benefit to the community.
