Laing O'Rourke executive director and former Olympics construction chief Howard Shiplee has called on the government to commit to nuclear and insisted that gas is "not a long-term option". In an exclusive interview with Construction News, Mr Shiplee -whose firm was named preferred bidder on the £2 billion main civils package at Hinkley Point C with Bouygues in June - said there was a need for "a greater level of speed and ambition" by the government in its approach to infrastructure.
