Tesco's shift towards refurbishment from new-build is unlikely to see a major shake-up of its supply chains but could lead to delays on site, according to retail experts. The retail giant has announced it will reduce new store openings as part of a focus on "refreshing its existing stores". The number of store openings will reduce by 38 per cent. Tesco is set to focus on its online offering while spending £1 billion on "improving the shopping trip for customers" through store alterations. Paul Zuccherelli, head of retail at consultant Davis Langdon, said contractors working with Tesco will be able to adapt to retrofit, and would have expected a focus on fewer megastores.
