We must take the long view on infrastructure

The UK's transport, energy and water infrastructure is taken for granted by many, but under the surface-with a few obvious exceptions-it is an ageing infrastructure, working at or near capacity. While it's easy to criticise, the likes of Network Rail and London Underground do an admirable job of keeping their networks operational, with limited access to maintain, repair and enhance. But it's not sustainable. London's Victorian sewer network is a case in point. Built by Sir Joseph Bazalgette after the 'Great Stink' of 1858, it remains in use today.
