摘要

While most MPs run a mile from any suggestion they have made a u-turn, the former chancellor Alistair Darling is getting a reputation as a politician who's not afraid to change his mind. In the summer he put his head above the parapet as the first senior Labour politician to break away from the broad bipartisan consensus over High Speed 2. Despite having signed off the plans as chancellor, he went public to say he was no longer convinced that High Speed 2 was the best way to spend £42.6bn. Now, in an interview with Construction News, he has revealed that he thinks the government should consider publicly funding new nuclear after the "expensive deal" agreed for Hinkley Point C.
