£8bn Hinkley work open to UK firms

UK contractors could win up to 57 per cent of the £14bn construction work on Hinkley Point C, the first new nuclear project in the UK for a generation. Tier one firms expect to be on site by the middle of 2014 after EDF Energy and the Department of Energy and Climate Change agreed a strike price for the electricity generated by the £l6bn development this week. It followed more than 18 months of negotiations during which the project was on hold. Energy secretary Ed Davey said the deal marked a historic moment for the UK, while Laing O'Rourke chief executive Anna Stewart described the agreement as a "pivotal moment for the UK construction industry".
