Treasury aims for £33bn project boost

The government has added new biomass,gas storage, wind farm, housing and university campus developments to its UK Guarantees scheme, with projects worth £33bn now prequalified. There are 40 projects prequalified - meaning that they are eligible for the UK Guarantee scheme - of which more than half are energy projects. This could see the schemes, which are subject to further approval and due diligence, secure government agreement to act as a guarantor, giving private lenders confidence that they will get their money back if the project cannot pay.
