Spring forecast offers few signs of green shoots

Like Japan's beleaguered economy before it, the British construction industry is set to lose at least a decade's-worth of growth in this downturn, according to the latest forecasts from the Construction Products Association. The association's spring forecast update, published last week, expects construction output in 2017 will still be £3.5 billion below its 2007 peak of £114.8bn, although 2007 was an exceptional year that included work from Thameslink and the Olympics.
