As many will know, last month saw the 30th anniversary of the film Back to the Future, featuring Marty McFly and his hoverboard. Science fiction is great fun, but in many ways, technology fact turns out to be a lot more exciting. Although we don't have time machines, we do have prototypes of the hoverboard, and many aspects of the infrastructure environment have come true Against that, many aspects of today's world, such as smartphones.were barely dreamed of back then. Predicting technology 30 years in the future is dangerous for exactly the reasons the film underestimated technology - we can only really take account of technologies already invented or incrementally different from those in the pipeline. But those things we can already foresee are only the baseline of what we will actually have, and all the inventions afterwards will add to it. In the light of this, what can we expect to see over the next 30 years in the construction industry?
