Balfour Beatty £17m Cardiff office job halted

A £17m Balfour Beatty office development in the centre of Cardiff has been stopped after the Welsh Government announced it was looking to sell the land. The Welsh Government announced last month that it was "exploring options for the marketing and disposal" of the Callaghan Square site in central Cardiff despite handing Balfour Beatty the contract to build a 500,000 sq ft office block on the land just over a year ago. A spokeswoman for Balfour Beatty told Construction News it had completed the design stage of the work but would not proceed with the construction phase due to the impending sale. The company would not comment when asked whether it would seek compensation.
