This week, the industry has had to come to terms with the sudden axing of yet another low-carbon initiative, the Green Deal. For the thousands of businesses that have poured their sweat and tears, not to mention millions of pounds, into trying to make the Green Deal a success, the energy secretary's justification - that the government had to protect hardworking families and businesses -felt like a kick in the teeth. The decision was a shock, but probably should have come as little surprise. Given the scale of the cuts the government has promised to make, it was inevitable that a failed policy would fall under the axe. And, let's be clear - it was a failure: take-up of the Green Deal was excruciatingly low. Just 15,866 measures were installed between launch in 2013 and the end of June this year.
