Contractor bids costing 0.57% of project value

The average cost of contractors' winning bid across all projects in 2014 was £60,208, compared with an average cost of a losing bid of £44,224, according to new research shared with Construction News. Research by consultants MarketingWorks and the University of Reading has shown that contractors end up spending around 0.57 per cent of the total project value on average across winning and losing bids. More than 170 representatives of construction industry firms, including 60 main contractors, were surveyed about their tendering habits and experience for the research. The data received through the survey captured £11.3bn of total project value, of which £8bn had full cost data.
