With major rail and road projects in the pipeline, spending on UK bridges is estimated to approach £lbn a year by 2023/24, with more than £100m spent on prefabricated components annually. But while opportunity is growing, so too is the pressure on bridge-owning organisations to deliver projects more efficiently. Against this backdrop, Laing O'Rourke,the University of Cambridge and Tony Gee & Partners are collaborating on an R&D programme that will ultimately generate cost, time and quality benefits across the full lifecycle of a bridge.
