Laing O'Rourke looks to draw a line after £245m group loss

An ill-fated Canadian hospital PFI has forced Laing O'Rourke into a shock £245m loss, the group's first loss in 15 years of trading. The Centre Hospitalier de l'Universite de Montreal PFI contract was a principal contributor to the losses in the year to 31 March 2016. In a trading statement (read in full online), chief executive Ray O'Rourke cited problems contributing to a headwind at the contractor dating back to austerity measures introduced by the then coalition government in 2010, which slashed £2.7bn from the company's order book.
