Revenue soars at Laing O'Rourke subsidiary after COVID-19 push

Laing O'Rourke's M&E subsidiary saw its revenue jump more than £40m, as it accelerated work on hospitals in response to the pandemic. Crown House Technologies brought forward work on the Grange University Hospital in Cwmbran, South Wales, and the Royal Liverpool Hospital, so that the facilities would be available for use after the COVID-19 pandemic struck last year. Sections of the Grange hospital were opened months ahead of schedule in late April after Laing O'Rourke worked extended hours and weekends on the 384-bed facility.The Royal Liverpool Hospital (pictured) partially opened at the start of May, months ahead of schedule. The company said the acceleration was the main reason behind the jump in revenue, from £86.5m to £128.6m,for the year ending 30 March 2020. An increase in other work, which the company had forecast for the business, also contributed to the 50 per cent increase in turnover.
