摘要

A former Rydon site manager who oversaw works on the Grenfell Tower refurbishment has said he assumed that the combustible insulation being installed on the windows was a fire-resistant seal. Gary Martin (pictured), who worked on the project between 31 July 2015 and 18 March 2016, oversaw work on the interior of the flats, including window fitting. In phase one of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry, experts concluded that the windows had little capacity to resist fire, as they were smaller than the original ones installed and left gaps between the frames and the concrete columns. A weatherproof but combustible seal was used to close the gap, known as an ethylene propylene diene monomer seal.
