Construction claims £4.6bn on furlough and self-employment schemes

One in 10 of all claims made through the government's Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme has come from the construction sector, according to HMRC data. A total of £17.5bn was claimed through the scheme across all industries up until 31 May. Of this, £l.76bn was paid out to more than 680,000 construction employees across 154,400 companies.
