Kier set to be kicked off bypass job

Cambridgeshire County Council is looking to replace Kier on a level-crossing bypass project after costs increased by almost £llm,it has been announced. The council said it was looking to re-procure the Peterborough-to-Whittlesey connection after failing to agree to Kier's final construction-cost estimate of £26.2m, which was up from £15.8m in October 2018. The project involves the creation of a bypass to connect Peterborough with Whittlesey via a bridge over the Peterborough-Ely railway line. Council leader Steve Count said re-procurement would be the fastest way to ensure project completion. He added: "It is a shame that we have been forced to wait so long to receive a price that is so clearly out of line with earlier and even revised expectations." A Kier spokeswoman pointed to "challenging conditions" as a reason for the cost increase.
