Organised by May Looi and Nik Michalakis from Novus London, the panel of expert speakers was chaired by Theresa Mohammed of Trowers & Hamlins and consisted of Peter Aeberli and Tony Bingham, leading arbitrators and practising barristers. Professor Renato Nazzini and Mark Tiggeman, partner at Kennedys. A lively debate took place regarding the role of the legal representatives in arbitration, what parties (and arbitrators) can do to make the process more efficient, and how it compares to other dispute resolution processes. The panel generally agreed that both the advantage and disadvantage of arbitration is its open-textured, flexible process. This was emphasised when Peter Aeberli plonked the heavy two-volume "White Book" court procedure on the table - comparing it to the slim, user-friendly Arbitration Act 1996.
