Caterpillar has been trying to persuade customers that a lower cost per tonne is the ideal way of measuring work, and it took a party of customers to the Kopalnie Porfiru I Diabuzu quarry near Krakow in Poland recently to try to show them how this could be achieved. It demonstrated best practice methods of loading a truck in as few passes as possible,rnand with the minimum movement, using a variety of machines. Different methods were used and measured, with Cat providing data on how much fuel could be saved in a year by following its loading advice.
