Quieter drills from Vermeer

Vermeer has added two new Navigator S3 horizontal directional drills (HDDs) to its line up, with the S3 in the title said to represent "speed, simplicity and sound". The D24x40 S3 and D40xS5 S3 drills are said to offer noise levels that are nearly halved, plus increased thrust/pullback. The D40×55 S3 drill takes over from its predecessor - the D36×50 Series Ⅱ Navigator HDD - and offers 177.9kNof thrust/pullback and 7,458Nm of rotational torque, which is a 10% increase over the D36×50 Series Ⅱ model. Power is provided by a 104kW, liquid-cooled, turbocharged diesel John Deere 4045 4.5L Tier 4-compliant engine. The drill's 57m/min carriage speed represents a 7% increase over the previous model.
