New thinking needed in a new age of risk

As contractors, our job has always been to construct buildings and infrastructure that are structurally sound, and in Europe we are generally good at it - it is rare to see images of buildings in Europe that have partially or totally collapsed as a result of poor workmanship. We cannot totally protect our buildings against fire and freak accidents, but we have a good track record when it comes to creating buildings and infrastructure that for many years withstand most of the predictable hazards to which they are exposed. But now we have entered a new age, with new threats, the like of which we have not seen often before and for which we are not necessarily prepared.
