摘要

Designing engines for the construction market that combine efficiency, durability and versatility has led to a number of key developments over the past few years. From targeting savings in fuel consumption, through to devising compact components that improve overall performance, there are many different factors that can make a difference. For a number of manufacturers, there has been a continued focus on meeting the industry's latest Stage IV emissions standards which have been set for Europe. The issue of improving emissions has been thrown into the spotlight by the managing director of Caterpillar France, Eric Lepine, who has called for the swift introduction of next generation Stage 5 legislation from 2016. As he explained, in order for this to happen, urgent industry-wide research and development is required to bring down the levels of emissions from the construction sector.
