Where there's a wall,there's a way

A large project doesn't always mean a challenging one. More often than not, however, it does. A case in point is the 3km extension project currently underway on the U6 light railway line that runs between Stuttgart airport and the city of Stuttgart. A number of contractors are operating on the project, with Zueblin being awarded a contract to build a ramp, tunnel and terminus structure at the airport. One element of Zublin's contract is the construction of a highly complex and vertical louvre wall, located at the Airport/Exhibition Centre terminus. Noting the engineering challenges of constructing the wall, Zublin decided to call on the expertise of formwork specialist Meva. Meva's (possibly diplomatic) description of the proposed wall was that it was "architecturally idiosyncratic".
