Contractors are continually looking for ways to improve foundations work, so the potential for developments in the concrete sector are there for the taking. The increasing industry focus on being climate conscious also opens the door to new innovations in this vital area of construction. In February, building materials supplier Cemex introduced the UK's first ready mixed concrete that is a CarbonNeutral product. The Vertua low carbon concrete range includes the option to offset residual CO_2 in accordance with the CarbonNeutral Protocol. Cemex says this range is'an important step' to support the company's recently announced climate strategy, including the ambition of delivering net zero concrete globally by 2050. The Vertua ultra zero concrete mix option is said to achieve a 70 percent reduction in embodied carbon emissions, with the remaining unavoidable emissions offset through working with Natural Capital Partners, a carbon offset and carbon neutrality specialist.
