Freightliner's severe-duty models are the 114SD (shown) and 106SD, brought out in 2012 to bolster the builder's vocational products, and the longer 122SD (formerly the Coronado SD). The numbers indicate bumper-to-back-of-cab measurements in inches. The builder favors proprietary DD13, DD15, DD15 TC, and DD16 engines from Detroit Diesel (a sister company under Daimler Trucks North America), but also offers Cummins ISX heavy and ISB medium diesels. The 114-SD and certain on-highway models can be ordered with Cummins Westport natural gas engines. Freightliner also offers most models, including all three SDs, as glider kits.
