From Radio Towers to Asphalt Pavers

As an interesting bit of related history, Blaw-Knox became a construction-equipment manufacturer after purchasing A.W. French in 1929. Until then, and apparently for some years after, the company was known primarily for building steef radio towers with a diamond shape-tapering outward from a narrow base to the midpoint, then tapering inward to a point at the top. Guy wires attached at the tower's midpoint supported the structure.
