Leading up to the Bauma equipment fair, we were alerted by several manufacturers that "electric" machines would share their stands. The Munich-based show occurred after this writing, so we'll wait to see what these equipment makers displayed. The guess, however, will be that "electric" will be displayed in several different forms. In recent years, manufacturers have used "electric" to describe machines that use various technologies to provide that power. In the 70 years Construction Equipment has been publishing, we've seen-even tested-various machines using electrical power. Electric machines are not new. What is new, though, is the demand for sustainable power generation, the desire to reduce emissions, and manufacturers pulling environmental components into their mission statements. The industry views electricity as a cleaner energy source; let's put it to work.
