Wood biomass is a viable alternative to coal, while the ashes generated from biomass combustion appear as a serious environmental and economic issue. This research focuses on use of wood biomass ashes (WBA) as a supplementary cementitious material. Fly WBAs, originating from 6 power plants, were used as collected to replace 5, 10, and 15 wt% of cement in pastes and mortars. Statistical analysis was performed to quantify the effect of WBAs physical and chemical properties on the properties of composites with different WBA content. Analysis showed significant contribution of alkalis and LOI values on properties of WBA cementitious composites. (C) 2020 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd.
