The use of 2D vision as part of an inspection process, or integrated with pick and place robots, is well established. But there has long been a 'holy grail' for machine vision - three dimensions - which is only now being realised, bringing a wealth of new potential applications for biscuit production and packaging particularly for inspection and defect rejection.rn3D vision cameras can measure height, depth and volume, and examine the relative contours of an uneven surface profile. An inspection system can then be pre-programmed to detect products against key quality parameters. For example, by being able to measure height or depth, a 3D vision system can inspect mixed boxes of biscuits or confectionery to check if they are complete or not.
