Cold weather does much more than delay concrete setting times. "It slows down, for example, the strength development which adds precious time before formwork can be stripped, shores removed and post-tensioning accommodated. All this can lead to building programme disruptions and large increases in labour costs, both of which will adversely affect a project's budget and profit capability. Fortunately, although the weather cannot be controlled, it is possible to adapt the concrete mix to compensate for cold or freezing conditions. One technique is to erect tents and provide internal heating to assist the concrete set time. But there are alternatives.
