By increasing the plan dimensions of the test slabs from 3.0 x 3.0m to 11.0 x 3.0m, it was possible to develop negative partial circumferential yield lines in the top of the slab for Tests 2, 3, 5, 6; and for Tests 1 and 4 (edge loading) the crack was close to a straight diagonal 4ine. 2. It could be argued that the corner and edge load tests are onerous but, if sawn joints open up to such an extent that aggregate interlock is not effective, then a corner load condition is relevant. 3. It is essential that the juxtaposition of load positions and joints should be considered at the conceptual design stage. 4. The use of double load plates centred at 300mm to simulate back-to-back racking did not appear to have an adverse effect on the load to first crack compared with previous tests using single load plates. 5. Further test data is required to assess the load transfer across sawn joints that open up. 6. For the current test, in which the joint did not open up before loading, the maximum applied load was identical to that for the inter- nal load (Test 2). The fibre dosage across the joint was 20kg/m~3. If a joint opens up and there is no effective load transfer, it is claimed that curling stresses can reach up to about 3N/mm~2. This would imply a significant reduction in load-carrying capacity. 7. The corner loading tests indicate that the value of M_o recommended in TR34 should still be adhered to.
