West India Quay development, Docklands, London

The West India Quay hotel and residential development is at the eastern end of West India Quay, west of the existing Docklands light railway station, located on the Isle of Dogs (see Figure 1). The building consists of a one and a half level basement for car parking and mechanical plant rooms; a six-storey podium on the north side containing function facilities and hotel rooms, and a 36-storey structure on the south side. Hotel rooms are located on the lower eight floors, and floors 9 to 12 are for serviced apartments. From floor 12, at the north side, there are three floors of transitional plant rooms. Floor 13 and above accommodate private apartments and penthouse flats (see Figure 2). When completed, this will be the tallest post-tensioned concrete building in the UK (see Figure 3).
