Concrete sandwich panels which, apart from the physical properties and the architectural design requirements, must also provide significant load transmission and sealing functions, are frequently made of precast walls with in-situ structural filling and integrated thermal insulation. For constructions of this kind, the inner and outer leaves are typically connected with stainless steel lattice girders, or with lattice girders made of conventional reinforcing steel in combination with additional stainless steel anchor elements, executed like concrete sandwich panels without in-situ filling as specified in DIN 1045, sub-section 19.8.7. A major disadvantage of this construction is the thermal bridge effect of the lattice girders. This must be taken into account as stipulated in the relevant technical approvals, as well as the obstruction of deformation of the facing shell due the shear-rigid connection of the inner concrete layer, which leads to considerable restraints.
