Impact from quality and quantity of raw wastewater in the EU Member states Revision of the European standard EN 12566-3 for small wastewater treatment plants

Working with and at the European standard for small wastewater treatment plants EN 12566-3 for seven years, amending it the first time in 2009 and adding a second amendment, that will be published in spring 2013, some of the European member states claim a fundamental revision. Reason for that seems to be the diverging handling of users and authorities with small wastewater treatment plants in the different European countries. The European urban wastewater treatment directive in article 3 prescribes the mandatory collection of wastewater for settlement areas with more than 2,000 inhabitants (E) and only allows exemptions if due to economic reasons or missing ecological advantages alternative or individual systems for wastewater treatment are installed. However they are only permitted if they are able to achieve the same level of environmental protection.
