Carriers should embrace open markets - ESC

The European Shippers' Council has accused ocean carriers of not yet wanting to accept that the days of hiding behind preferential competition rules are over. Opening the ESC's Shipper Forum 2007 conference in Lisbon in November, chairman Dick van den Broek Humphreij said: 'Judging by the type of information ocean carriers now want to exchange between each other, we are disappointed that they do not yet appear ready to accept the open market challenges and opportunities that should arise once liner conferences are abolished in the EU in October next year.'
