Life at PSA's new Exolgan facility is settling down. The terminal, which is located about 129 nautical miles across the river Plate from Montevideo is, along with its BA counterparts, preparing to fight Montevideo for traffic. While BA's commercial size (12 million people live in the city) suggests that there will always be a certain number of direct call services, there appears to be a preference from several ocean carriers for feeding. Partly, this is because of the Argentinian port's operational difficulties. To the BA box terminal operators it shouldn't be of too much concern as a box handled - whether it be from a feeder vessel or direct call ship - is a box handled, but the loss of prestige for the "Portenos" (as people from BA call themselves) and government losing out to their Uruguayan rivals might take some adjusting to.
