The forecasts below are published from MDS Transmodal's latest world cargo model and reflect trade data available in late 2007. They project trends by commodity and country from 1996 through to 2011. This quarter's analysis covers the trade between Far East countries and their main trading partners. The principal message is one of continuing containerised cargo growth from the Far East to markets which have generally not suffered the downturn experienced in North America. For instance, growth in exports from the Far East to the Mid-East/ South Asia is envisaged to be 43% between 2007 and 2011. Elsewhere, rises of 33% to Australasia, 47% to East/South Africa, 54% to West Africa, and 32% to Latin America are predicted (see figure 1-7).
