Red Sea ports' capacity expands

The Red Sea region has bucked the global economic recession in many respects with trading volumes resilient and optimism for the future high.rnThis has been reflected in a positive investment climate, with several ocean carriers phasing in more direct calls at ports in the region, many factories geared to the export market being set up and significant amounts of new container-handling capacity coming on stream.rnJeddah, Aqaba and Yemen all have significant projects underway and/or heavily committed too.rnThe latest scheme to come on line was the USD510 million Red Sea Gateway Terminal in Jeddah, which handled its first ship, Al Muttanabi (3.800TEU) on December 22,2009.
