World fleet changes, December 2009

Once again, no newbuilding orders were placed in December. Due to continuing deliveries and cancellations, the orderbook for fully-cellular vessels dropped to 4.8 million TEU (830 ships), therefore, representing a year-on-year contraction of 21.3%. The total capacity on order now amounts to 37.2% of the active fully-cellular world fleet.rnFully-cellular vessels commissioned in December amounted to 20 units with a combinedrnslot capacity of 75.855TEU, bringing the total world fleet capacity in service to 12.9 million TEU (4,734 ships).rnThe total number of vessels commissioned in 2009 came to 275 ships with a combined capacity of l,099,735TEU, representing full-year growth of 6.3%, compared to 13.4% in 2008.
