Mixed response to FMC fact finding

The Federal Maritime Commission's (FMC) nine-month investigation into vessel capacity and equipment management on US trades concluded with plans to increase its oversight in order to facilitate better collaboration between ocean carriers and shippers. However, it received a mixed response from trade groups. The commission said that the solution to the problems experienced between shippers and carriers in the early part of last year was for the latter to work more closely with their customers, within a framework organised by the FMC.
