摘要

Retailers claim to have done much to improve the carbon footprint of their supply chains over the past five years, but sorting out who has been responsible for what is not easy. Many of their ocean carriers have indeed cut CO_2 emissions by as much as 30%, but much of this has only been done by the carriers to restore much-needed profitability through slow steaming and the deployment of bigger, more fuel-efficient ships. It clearly hasn't been due to pressure from retailers because many of them are still complaining about the longer transit times inflicted through slow steaming.
