In the September-December period of 2012 daily charter rates fell further, with the Larger ships encountering the sharpest decreases. According to the Hamburg Shipbrokers' Association's New Contex index, average daily charter rates for the month of December for Type 4.250 teu panamax-class ships were 19.5% ($2,533) lower than in July 2012.
