WE RECENTLY RECEIVED a call to pump an 80-yard slab for a chain restaurant. The jobsite was in one of those big outdoor malls with a Bass Pro Shops and large movie theater, so I was pretty excited. The superintendent asked me to take a look at the job because concrete was scheduled for 5:00 a.m. and I might want to get my game plan together for laying out our hoses in the daylight. By the time I drove the 20 minutes out there, though, the situation had completely changed. The superintendent apologized as I pulled up, saying, "I'm sorry, but the finisher (who was from another state) said he had to have a boom pump; he won't use a line pump." I told the superintendent not to worry about it and, although I disagreed with the finisher, 1 understood.
