OSGi and Spring are two Java technologies that address complementary concerns. Recently, they were combined in the SpringSource dm Server, a Java application server based on Apache Tomcat, OSGi, and the Spring framework. This book explains the fundamental concepts of OSGi and Spring, and shows how they can be combined to provide a powerful framework for Java enterprise applications.rnChapter 1 provides a good introduction to OSGi concepts, such as services, versioning, and hot pluggability. It explains the difficulties with class loading that OSGi addresses, and describes the underlying OSGi architecture. It also presents the first version of the "Hello World" application-an OSGi version using Apache Felix-that is revised throughout the book.
